About

Ponderosa Campground occupies a beautiful grove of towering ponderosa pines in Bear Canyon, positioned along one of Utah's most scenic drives. The historic trees were planted in 1914, and the Civilian Conservation Corps built the campground in 1933. Aspen and maple trees fill the understory, creating shaded, private sites and spectacular fall color displays. Salt Creek flows beside the campground, offering accessible rainbow trout fishing. The Bear Canyon Trail at nearby Bear Canyon Campground provides hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. The Mount Nebo Wilderness, just 1.5 miles away, features pristine alpine terrain, wildlife, and summer wildflowers. Devil's Kitchen Geological Area lies 6 miles up the Nebo Loop, with a half-mile trail to red rock hoodoos. The campground has 23 paved sites with picnic tables, fire rings, and some grills. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided. This is bear country; proper food storage is required. Gates close at 10pm and quiet hours run from 10pm to 6am.
