About

Upper Pleasant Creek Campground is a favorite among campers seeking a convenient mountain retreat along Utah's scenic Highway 12. Located at 8,000 feet elevation and surrounded by stands of dense alpine and ponderosa pines, the campground offers shaded sites with natural windbreaks. The campground features 12 campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis, with no advance reservations accepted. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. The campground is suitable for tents and small RVs; vehicles over 25 feet are not advised due to site limitations. Paved roads and parking areas provide easy access within the campground. A vault toilet and potable drinking water from a hand pump serve all campsites. Visitors must bring their own firewood to preserve the natural environment. Recreational opportunities abound in the area. Trout fishing is popular at nearby Lower Bowns Reservoir and Lower Pleasant Creek. The surrounding Fishlake National Forest offers excellent hiking, scenic driving, and wildlife viewing. The campground's location between Torrey (18 miles) and Boulder (19.2 miles) makes it an ideal base for exploring Capitol Reef National Park and the Boulder Mountain region. Managed by High Country Recreation under Forest Service permit, the campground operates from May through mid-October, with dry camping available in shoulder months as access allows.
