About
Goose Island Campground is a Bureau of Land Management campground situated along the scenic Colorado River, just 1.4 miles east of Moab on State Route 128. The campground offers 20 individual sites available on a first-come, first-served basis, each limited to 10 people and two vehicles. Two additional group sites are available for reservation through Recreation.gov. The location is prized for its spectacular views of the Colorado River and the massive red rock cliffs of Arches National Park visible across the water.
Each campsite includes a parking pad for two vehicles, a picnic table, and a fire ring, with vault toilets and trash receptacles located throughout the campground. The sites accommodate tents, RVs, and trailers, though there are no hookups or potable water available on site. Campers must bring their own water or fill up at Lions Park in Moab before arriving. The campground is particularly popular from March through October and typically fills by morning during this period due to its proximity to Moab, summer shade, and beautiful scenery.
During spring and fall, campground hosts are stationed to assist with site acquisition, trip planning, and campground etiquette. The Colorado River flows directly adjacent to the campground, but visitors should be aware that it has dangerous undercurrents and local regulations regarding life jackets must be followed. The stay limit is 14 nights within a consecutive 30-day period.
Directions
From Moab, drive north on Highway 191 to the junction of State Route 128. Turn east on SR 128 and drive 1.4 miles. The campground will be on the left.
