Tanners Flat

Tanners Flat Campground is located in scenic Little Cottonwood Canyon, just 6 miles from Sandy, Utah, within the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. At 7,200 feet elevation, the campground is set among a forest of shady pine, aspen, oak, and maple trees with vivid summer wildflowers and colorful autumn foliage. Little Cottonwood Creek runs along the edge of the campground, offering good trout fishing popular with local fly-fishermen. The campground contains 31 single sites, 3 double sites, and 4 group overnight sites, all with picnic tables and campfire rings. Group sites also include grills and serving tables. An amphitheater is available for reservation. Vault toilets and drinking water are provided seasonally. Roads and parking spurs are paved, though most sites cannot accommodate large RVs or trailers. A volleyball court is available but campers must bring their own net and ball. Hiking and mountain biking trailheads are found throughout the canyon, with popular hikes to Red Pine Lake, White Pine Lake, and Maybird Gulch leading to alpine lakes. Snowbird Resort is a few miles up-canyon, and Albion Basin hosts the Wasatch Wildflower Festival in late July/early August. Note that Little Cottonwood Canyon is part of the Salt Lake City Watershed with strictly enforced regulations: no pets are allowed and swimming is prohibited.

Directions

From I-215, take the 6200 South exit and travel a mile east to Wasatch Blvd. Take Wasatch Blvd 3 miles south to the junction with Little Cottonwood Canyon/Highway 210. Turn left at the junction and travel up Little Cottonwood Canyon for 4.1 miles to the campground on the right.
