About
Tanners Flat Campground is located in scenic Little Cottonwood Canyon at 7,200 feet elevation, just 4 miles up-canyon from the junction with Wasatch Boulevard. The campground contains 31 single sites, 3 double sites, and 7 accessible group sites, all situated among a forest of shady pine, aspen, oak, and maple trees. Little Cottonwood Creek runs along the edge of the campground, and the area features vivid summer wildflowers and spectacular autumn foliage. All sites include picnic tables and campfire rings, while group sites also have grills and serving tables. The campground offers vault toilets, paved roads and parking spurs, and an amphitheater available for reservation. A volleyball court is on-site, though campers must bring their own net and ball. Firewood is available for purchase from the host. Some sites are first-come, first-served while others can be reserved through Recreation.gov. The canyon provides excellent access to hiking and mountain biking trails, including popular hikes to Red Pine Lake, White Pine Lake, and Maybird Gulch. Mountain bikers enjoy the Cottonwood Creek Trail and Albion Meadows Trail. Little Cottonwood Creek offers good trout fishing. Rock climbing is popular throughout the canyon. Snowbird Resort is located a few miles up-canyon. Important note: This campground is located in the Salt Lake City Watershed where special regulations are strictly enforced including no pets allowed and no swimming or wading.
