SOUTH CASCADE SPRINGS DISPERSED CAMPING AREAS

Closed — Currently closed for winter. Access roads close in late November and typically reopen in late May depending on snow conditions.

About

South Cascade Springs Dispersed Camping Areas is located in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest near Cascade Springs, a popular artesian spring with naturally terraced cascades. This dispersed camping area offers primitive camping experiences in the high elevation Wasatch Mountains along Wasatch County roads. As a dispersed camping area, there are no designated campsites, restrooms, water, or other amenities. Campers must be self-sufficient and follow Leave No Trace principles, including packing out all trash and properly disposing of human waste at least 200 feet from water sources. The area provides access to the Cascade Springs attraction and surrounding trails, offering opportunities to view wildlife including moose, black bears, and various bird species. The area is accessible via the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway (Highway 92) or through Wasatch Mountain State Park from Midway via State Route 114. Roads in this area are subject to seasonal winter closures, typically from late November through May due to heavy snowfall. The Pleasant Grove Ranger District manages this area and can provide current conditions.

Directions

From Midway, take State Route 114 (Cascade Springs Drive) east through Wasatch Mountain State Park. From Provo Canyon, take US Highway 189 to Highway 92 (Alpine Loop Scenic Byway) past Sundance, then turn onto Cascade Springs Scenic Drive. Note: Alpine Loop is closed to vehicles over 30 feet in length and roads are seasonally closed in winter.
