About
Cowboy Camp Campground is a secluded seven-site facility perched on a ridge in the mesas above Moab, offering campers striking panoramic views of Utah's canyon country. Managed by the Bureau of Land Management's Moab Field Office, this first-come, first-served campground caters to tent campers and those with high clearance vehicles seeking a more primitive camping experience in the heart of red rock country.
Each campsite accommodates up to 10 people and two vehicles (a vehicle pulling a trailer counts as two vehicles), and is equipped with a parking pad, picnic table, and fire ring. The campground provides vault toilets and trash receptacles, but campers must bring their own water as none is available on-site. The primitive nature of the campground means no hookups or amenities beyond the basics, making it ideal for self-sufficient campers who value solitude and natural settings over creature comforts.
The campground's location along State Route 313 places it within easy reach of premier outdoor recreation destinations including Canyonlands National Park's Island in the Sky district and Dead Horse Point State Park. The surrounding area offers numerous 4WD roads and mountain biking routes, making Cowboy Camp an excellent base camp for exploring the region's backcountry. High clearance vehicles are required to access the campground, and RVs, trailers, and pull campers are not permitted due to the challenging road conditions and site configurations.
Directions
