From Recreation.gov
The National Forest will be conducting hazardous fuels reduction work in and around Granite Flat and Little Mill Campgrounds during the summer of 2026 to help reduce wildfire risk. Visitors may see crews working and hear chainsaws Monday–Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., though crews will avoid occupied campsites whenever possible. Work will include removing smaller trees and trimming larger ones, while preserving aspen stands to encourage healthy forest growth.
About
Little Mill Campground occupies a prime creekside location in American Fork Canyon within the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest. The campground features 25 family sites plus one group site, with options including standard tent sites, RV sites (no hookups), and a yurt. Dense stands of aspen, oak, and maple provide ample shade and spectacular autumn color. American Fork Creek runs alongside the campground and is stocked with rainbow trout, making it a favorite destination for fly fishers. The 20-mile Alpine Loop Scenic Byway passes directly by the campground, offering access to alpine canyons, mountain meadows, and breathtaking views of the Wasatch Range. This road is not recommended for vehicles over 30 feet. Timpanogos Cave National Monument is just 1.5 miles down the canyon, featuring a steep but rewarding hike to guided cave tours. Nearby Tibble Fork and Silver Flat Reservoirs offer non-motorized boating, kayaking, and additional fishing opportunities. Amenities include vault toilets, fire grills, and picnic tables at each site. Firewood is available for purchase. There is no potable water on site; campers must bring all water needed for their stay. The campground enforces a 7-day stay limit, quiet hours from 10pm to 6am, and gates close at 10pm. Pets are allowed with a maximum of two dogs per site on leashes not exceeding 6 feet. This is bear country; food and trash must be stored securely.
