About

Stanton Creek Primitive Camping Area provides a true backcountry camping experience on the shores of Lake Powell within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. This is dispersed camping at its most basic: no designated sites, no amenities, and no reservations. Campers drive or boat in and set up wherever they find suitable ground among the dirt, brush, and sandstone terrain. Some areas sit directly adjacent to the lake when water levels permit. The access road branches off Highway 276 just north of Bullfrog Marina and quickly deteriorates into sandy stretches and rocky terrain. A high-clearance 4WD vehicle is strongly recommended; RVs and trailers face significant challenges. Lake level fluctuations can dramatically change beach access and create hazardous conditions, so campers should monitor water levels before arrival. Ground fires are permitted below the 3,700-foot high-water mark and must be contained to a 4x4-foot area. Campers must bring their own firewood as collection is prohibited. All trash must be packed out, and when pit toilets are unavailable, portable toilet systems are required for human waste within a quarter mile of the shoreline. Quiet hours run from 10pm to 6am.

Directions

Turn onto the access road just north of Bullfrog Marina on Highway 276. The unpaved road requires high-clearance 4WD due to sandy stretches and sandstone terrain. Drive until you find a suitable place to camp.
