About

Little Deer Creek campground is a remote primitive campground within Wasatch Mountain State Park, nestled against the Uinta National Forest boundary at 7,230 feet elevation. The campground sits in a mountain valley between the Great Western Trail on the western skyline and Cummings Parkway Road to the east. Surrounded by oak brush with patches of choke cherry and willows, the area features sub-alpine vegetation including Rocky Mountain juniper, quaking aspens, Colorado blue spruce, and lodgepole pines, with narrow-leaf cottonwood trees along the Provo Deer Creek drainage. The campground offers 16 individual sites suitable for tents and small trailers, plus one group site limited to 25 people. Each site includes a potable water spigot, picnic table, fire pit, and barbeque grill. A central restroom with flush toilets serves the campground. Access requires navigating approximately 3 miles of extremely rough dirt road, and four-wheel drive with high clearance vehicles is strongly recommended. The remote location makes it ideal for off-highway vehicle enthusiasts, with 75 miles of dirt roads and trails accessible directly from the campsites. Late season can be dusty, and bugs tend to be problematic mid to late summer. The nearest town, Midway, is about 10 miles away.

Directions

From SLC, take I-80 East 24 miles to US-40 Heber/Vernal exit. Travel 17 miles to Heber City, turn right at 100 South and follow to Midway. Turn left on Center Street (Hwy 113) to Tate Lane, turn right then right again on Stringtown Road. Turn left onto Cascade Springs Drive and travel 5.2 miles to Cascade Springs. Turn right, follow pavement 0.2 miles to first dirt road on right. Travel 3.3 miles on winding dirt road to campground. Four-wheel drive and high clearance strongly recommended for last 3 miles.
