About
Ridge Yurt offers an authentic backcountry experience in Utah's High Uinta Mountains, situated at 9,320 feet in a sheltered bowl just below the ridgeline. The eastern slopes drop more than a thousand feet to the East Fork of the Bear River, providing dramatic views southeast toward Mount Beulah. The surrounding burnt forest terrain offers excellent opportunities for backcountry skiing with quick laps accessible just below the yurt.
The yurt is one of five managed by the Bear River Outdoor Recreation Alliance (BRORA), a nonprofit working with the U.S. Forest Service. Access requires a 4.5-mile ski, snowshoe, or hike gaining 934 feet of elevation from the winter trailhead on Mirror Lake Highway near Bear River Lodge. Snowmachine access is permitted.
The yurt sleeps up to 8 people and comes equipped with a wood-burning stove, stocked firewood, kitchen utensils and cookware, bunk beds (bring your own sleeping pads and bags), and cleaning supplies. An outhouse is located approximately 20 feet from the yurt. No water is provided; guests must filter from nearby streams or melt snow. This is a pack-in, pack-out facility.
Directions
From Mirror Lake Highway (Utah Highway 150) near Bear River Lodge, access the winter trailhead. The yurt is 4.5 miles from the trailhead with 934 feet of elevation gain. In winter, access is by ski, snowshoe, or snowmobile. In summer, hiking access is available.
