About
Dogwood Day Use Picnic Area is located 2 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, offering easy access from Salt Lake City. Big Cottonwood Creek runs alongside the site, providing opportunities for catch-and-release fly fishing in stocked trout waters. The area features group picnic sites equipped with tables, campfire rings, and grills. Parking spurs and pathways are paved for accessibility. Flush toilets are normally available, though the facility uses non-potable water only. In late spring, dogwoods and lilacs bloom throughout the area, while summer wildflowers appear in late July and fall foliage peaks in late September. This is strictly a day-use facility. Gates open at 7 a.m. and close at 10 p.m. No overnight camping is permitted. Dogs are prohibited due to watershed protection regulations. The area sits in bear country with strict food storage requirements.
