Sulphur Campground

Closed — Closed for the season due to winter snow. The Mirror Lake Highway typically opens in late May and campgrounds open shortly after. Reservations available through Recreation.gov when open.

About

Sulphur Campground is situated at 9,100 feet elevation along Utah Highway 150, the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway, approximately 39 miles from Evanston, Wyoming. The campground occupies a scenic location at the confluence of Stillwater Fork and Hayden Fork of the Bear River, surrounded by pines and aspens that provide limited shade. Summer wildflowers add seasonal color to the landscape. The campground offers 15 single sites accommodating up to 8 people each, 6 double sites for up to 16 people, and 1 group site with a capacity of 25 people. Each site includes a picnic table and fire pit. A short trail from the campground leads to Bourbon Lake, and multiple trailheads provide access to the High Uintas Wilderness for backpacking and day hiking. The Hayden Fork and nearby streams are popular for fishing and lead to numerous high alpine lakes. The area supports hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and canoeing. The 65-mile Mirror Lake Scenic Byway offers breathtaking scenic viewpoints throughout the Uinta Mountains. ATVs must be licensed to operate on the highway, and travel plan maps are available from the Forest Service.

Directions

From Evanston, Wyoming, take Utah Highway 150 (Mirror Lake Scenic Byway) south for 39 miles. Sulphur Campground is on the west side of the highway. From Kamas, Utah, take Center Street east, which becomes Utah Highway 150, and travel about 40 miles to the campground on the west side of the road.
