Spruces Campground sits at 7,500 feet elevation in Big Cottonwood Canyon, approximately 10 miles from the canyon entrance. The campground features 81 single sites, 9 double sites, 2 triple sites, group overnight facilities, day-use group areas, and yurts. All roads, parking areas, and walkways are paved or concrete, making this the most modern campground in the district. Each site includes a picnic table, campfire ring, and grill. The surrounding forest of spruce and aspen trees provides abundant shade and excellent fall colors. Nearby recreation includes the Donut Falls Trail, accessible from neighboring Jordan Pines Campground, and Big Cottonwood Creek offers fly fishing opportunities. Solitude Mountain Resort is just 3 miles up-canyon, providing scenic chairlift rides, dining, and disc golf during summer months. As part of the Salt Lake City Watershed, special regulations are strictly enforced. No domestic animals including dogs, cats, horses, or mules are permitted except service animals. Swimming, wading, and playing in waterways is prohibited. The campground operates on a reservation system through Recreation.gov with a 5-day advance booking requirement and minimum stay requirements on weekends.

Directions

From I-215, take the 6200 South exit and travel a mile east to Wasatch Blvd. Take Wasatch Blvd a mile south to the junction with Big Cottonwood Canyon/Highway 190. Turn left at the junction and travel up Big Cottonwood Canyon 9.7 miles to the campground on the right.
