About

Firefighters Campground is a developed Forest Service campground in the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area on the Ashley National Forest. Situated at 6,900 feet on a gentle slope shaded by ponderosa pines and juniper, the campground serves as a memorial to three firefighters who lost their lives battling the 1977 Cart Creek Fire. The reservoir is just 3 miles away and offers world-class fishing for lake, brown, and rainbow trout. The campground has approximately 94 standard nonelectric sites spread across two loops, six of which are ADA accessible. Each site includes a picnic table and campfire ring, with some sites also having grills. Facilities include flush toilets, drinking water, and a dump station. Roads and parking spurs are paved. Firewood is available for purchase from the camp host. Showers are not on-site but are available 2.5 miles away at Deer Run Campground with proof of registration. Bear Canyon Trail starts directly across the road from the campground, providing an easy 3-mile round-trip hike with views of Red Canyon and Flaming Gorge. Flaming Gorge Dam offers guided tours of the hydroelectric plant and visitor center. The Green River below the dam provides rafting opportunities through unique geology and past Native American rock art.
