About
Hamburger Rock Campground is situated at the base of its namesake geologic feature, a large red sandstone monolith in the Indian Creek area of Bears Ears National Monument. The 10 campsites occupy a high desert landscape rimmed by Wingate Sandstone cliffs, with a few sites shaded by small juniper trees while others are shaded primarily by the rock itself. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the Indian Creek corridor, internationally recognized for world-class crack climbing on the surrounding sandstone walls. Prominent geologic features visible from the area include Lavender Mesa, Bridger Jack Mesa, and the North and South Six Shooter Peaks. The region also contains significant archaeological resources for those interested in cultural history. Facilities are primitive: each site has a picnic table and fire ring, with vault toilets available, but there is no drinking water or hookups. Campers must bring all water and firewood, as wood collection is prohibited. The campground is approximately 3 miles southeast of Canyonlands National Park and 17 miles northwest of Newspaper Rock.
Directions
Turn west off U.S. Route 191 onto Utah State Route 211 and travel approximately 29.1 miles. Turn onto Lockhart Basin Road on the north side of the highway. The campground is located 1.2 miles down the maintained gravel road on the east side.
