Granite Flat
The campground is currently closed for the season and typically opens late May. During summer 2026, hazardous fuels reduction work will occur Monday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; crews will avoid occupied campsites whenever possible. Gate hours are 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Seven-day stay limit in effect.

The National Forest will be conducting hazardous fuels reduction work in and around Granite Flat and Little Mill Campgrounds during the summer of 2026 to help reduce wildfire risk. Visitors may see crews working and hear chainsaws Monday–Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., though crews will avoid occupied campsites whenever possible. Work will include removing smaller trees and trimming larger ones, while preserving aspen stands to encourage healthy forest growth.

Granite Flat Campground is situated in American Fork Canyon at 6,400 feet elevation, surrounded by dense stands of aspen, Douglas fir, spruce, and pine trees. The campground offers 44 single sites, 8 double sites, and 3 group sites, with amenities including vault toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, grills, a baseball field, and horseshoe pits. There is no potable water available; campers must bring all water needed for their stay. Nearby Tibble Fork and Silver Flat Reservoirs offer non-motorized boating, kayaking, and fishing for rainbow, brook, and brown trout. Multiple hiking and mountain biking trails originate in the area, including the 6-mile Tibble Fork Trail, 2-mile Pine Hollow Trail, 3-mile Mill Canyon Trail, and 15-mile Ridge Trail. American Fork Creek, accessible 3 miles south, provides fly fishing opportunities. Timpanogos Cave National Monument is just a few miles down American Fork Canyon, featuring a steep 1.5-mile hike to a guided tour of a three-room cave system. The 20-mile paved Alpine Loop Scenic Byway passes nearby, though vehicles over 30 feet are not recommended on this road.
Directions
From Salt Lake City, take I-15 to the Alpine-Highland exit (exit 284). Go east on Highway 92 for 8 miles to the mouth of American Fork Canyon. Continue 5 miles up the canyon to the junction, then take the North Fork (Forest Service Road 85) toward Tibble Fork Reservoir. Stay left on the paved road for 1 mile to the campground.
