Ponderosa Group Campground

Closed — Closed for the season. Mirror Lake Highway closes each winter due to heavy snowfall and avalanche risk. The highway typically reopens in late May to early June depending on snow conditions.

About

Ponderosa Group Campground is located on a secluded forested hillside above Highway 150 in the Uinta Mountains of northeastern Utah. At 7,400 feet elevation, the single group site can accommodate up to 100 people and features large picnic tables, campfire circles, and smaller tables scattered around the edges. Towering ponderosa pines provide ample shade over the site, while sagebrush and summer wildflowers dot the landscape. The campground is accessed via a short but steep, rough dirt road not advisable for larger RVs or trailers. Vault toilets are provided, but campers must bring all their own water and garbage bags. The site offers plenty of room for tents and smaller recreational vehicles. Nearby recreation includes Yellow Pine, North Fork, and Shingle Creek hiking and mountain biking trails, off-road vehicle trails, and excellent trout fishing in the Lower Provo River below the campground. The Mirror Lake Scenic Byway provides access to numerous high alpine lakes, streams, trails, and the High Uintas Wilderness.
