About

Avintaquin Campground is a rustic high-elevation campground in Ashley National Forest, situated at 9,000 feet among towering Douglas fir trees. Located atop scenic Indian Canyon just off Highway 191, it serves as a gateway to the Reservation Ridge Scenic Backway, a dirt road open to off-road vehicles, mountain biking, and hiking that offers beautiful views of the surrounding landscape. The campground has 13 single-family sites and one group site that accommodates up to 50 people with parking for 10 vehicles. Each single site supports one vehicle, one RV/trailer, one tent, and up to 8 people. Every site features a picnic table, utility table, and campfire ring. Vault toilets are provided but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own supply. Wildlife viewing is excellent here, with mule deer and elk frequenting the area. Avintaquin Creek and numerous springs are nearby. Quiet hours are 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., and all dogs must be leashed at all times within the campground.
