About

Indian Crossing Campground is nestled along the Green River in the high desert valley of Browns Park, a remote area that once served as a haven for outlaws like Butch Cassidy. The campground features 20 individual sites and one group site, all equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, parking areas, and restroom facilities. Located adjacent to the historic John Jarvie Ranch, visitors can explore 1880s frontier history while enjoying modern camping amenities including drinking water and toilets. The campground is a prime destination for anglers seeking world-class trout fishing on the Green River, which flows from Flaming Gorge Dam to the Colorado state line. Fishing regulations require artificial bait only, with strict size limits to protect the fishery. The river also offers excellent floating opportunities, with flows fluctuating daily from 830 to 4,500 cubic feet per second depending on dam releases. Multiple launch points provide access for rafters and kayakers, with no permits required for personal use between Flaming Gorge Dam and Dinosaur National Monument. The remote location requires careful trip planning, as access involves either a steep gravel road from Wyoming or a long drive from Maybell, Colorado. The Crouse Canyon route from Vernal is extremely narrow and not recommended for RVs. Despite its remoteness, the campground offers a rare combination of developed amenities, exceptional fishing, river recreation, and frontier history in one of Utah's most scenic and isolated valleys.

Directions

From Vernal via Clay Basin: North 55 miles on Highway 191 to just over the Wyoming border, then east 22 miles on gravel/paved road including 2 miles at 17% grade. Follow Jarvie Ranch/Browns Park signs. From Maybell, CO: East on Highway 318 for 70 miles of paved and 8 miles of gravel road. The Crouse Canyon route from Vernal is not recommended for RVs due to extremely narrow roads.
