About

Horsethief Campground occupies a scenic mesa west of Moab at 5,500 feet elevation, where pygmy pinyon and juniper forest provides shade and cooler summer temperatures than the valley floor. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park, both within a 15-minute drive. The campground is divided into four loops. Appaloosa, Buckskin, and Cayuse loops contain 56 sites that can accommodate RVs and trailers. Dapple loop has 28 tent-only sites where generators are not allowed. All 83 individual sites operate first-come, first-served with a limit of 10 people and two vehicles per site. Five group sites accommodate 10-20 people with vehicles limited to six sedans or small vans (no RVs or trailers). There is no potable water, dump station, or hookups. Vault toilets are dispersed throughout the campground. The area offers extensive mountain biking trails and 4WD roads. Moab is 25 minutes away for supplies, dining, and gear rentals.

From downtown Moab, head north on Highway 191 for 9 miles. Turn left (west) onto Highway 313 and drive 12 miles. The campground sign will be on the right; turn onto the gravel road and the campground entrance is on the left.
