About

Horsethief Campground is a Bureau of Land Management facility located on the mesas above Moab, Utah, offering 83 individual campsites and 5 group sites in a scenic pinyon-juniper woodland setting. The campground is divided into four loops: Appaloosa, Buckskin, and Cayuse loops contain 56 sites that can accommodate RVs, while Dapple loop features 28 tent-only sites where generators are prohibited to maintain a quieter camping experience. Individual sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis and are limited to 10 people and two vehicles per site (a vehicle pulling a trailer counts as two vehicles). Each site is equipped with a parking pad, picnic table, and fire ring, with vault toilets and trash receptacles conveniently located throughout the campground. The five group sites accommodate 10-20 people and are available for advance reservation through Recreation.gov. Groups planning trips into Canyonlands to ride the White Rim trail often use these sites for pre- and post-trip camping. The campground is strategically located near numerous outdoor recreation opportunities, including mountain bike trails, 4WD roads like Gemini Bridges Road, and boat access via Mineral Bottom Boat Ramp. The location provides convenient access to Canyonlands National Park and Dead Horse Point State Park, making it an ideal base camp for exploring the Moab area. Horsethief Campground operates year-round with a 14-night stay limit per 30-day period. Individual sites cost $25 per night, while group sites are $100 per night. Payment by card, cash, or check is accepted at the campground. Note that this facility does not provide water or hookups, so campers must be self-sufficient. The campground is located approximately 12 miles west of Highway 191 on State Route 313.
