About

Elkhorn Campground is a scenic high-elevation campground at approximately 9,300 feet on Thousand Lake Mountain in the Fishlake National Forest. Located about 20 miles northeast of Loa, Utah, the campground is surrounded by thick stands of aspen, pine, and spruce trees that provide pleasant shade throughout the summer months. Wildflowers bloom abundantly in the surrounding meadows during the warmer season. The campground offers 7 single sites on a first-come, first-served basis and one reservable group site that can accommodate up to 75 people and 10 vehicles. The group site includes large tables, grills, Dutch oven cooking surfaces, and a fire ring with benches. Vault toilets and seasonal drinking water from a hand pump are provided. All sites are nonelectric with gravel parking spurs. Miles of trails crisscross the area, including the Great Western Trail, providing excellent opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and off-road vehicle riding. Numerous alpine lakes in the vicinity offer fishing and scenic views. Access is via a dirt road that is narrow, steep, and single-lane in places.
