ESFGJT A strong low pressure system off the Pacific Coast will begin to draw in tropical moisture associated with Topical Storm Rachel this weekend. This strong southerly fetch will draw anomalously high moisture content across the Desert Southwest and into eastern Utah and western Colorado. The chance for widespread precipitation increases Saturday evening into Sunday. Total precipitation forecasts range from 1 to 3 inches across high terrain, with highest amounts favoring the Uintas, Tavaputs and the Southwest San Juan mountains. Embedded thunderstorms are also possible Sunday afternoon, increasing the threat for flash flooding across vulnerable terrain. While confidence in location and rainfall rates remain low at this time, the potential for rapidly rising rivers, streams, normally dry arroyos and slot canyons are possible Sunday through Monday. Please follow the evolving forecast, especially if your plans including recreating or commuting across eastern Utah and western Colorado Sunday onward. Also, keep in mind weather potential above your location and upstream, particularly for those who reside below sensitive terrain like recent burn scars.

About
Arch Dam Campground sits in rolling high desert terrain dotted with sagebrush and pinyon pines at an elevation of 6,200 feet within the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area. This group-only facility is specifically designed for large gatherings and offers three nonelectric sites: one accommodating up to 60 people and two accommodating up to 75 people each. Each site includes picnic tables and a campfire circle. Beautiful Flaming Gorge Reservoir is accessible just 3 miles from the campground and is renowned for world-class fishing for lake, brown, and rainbow trout. Cedar Springs Marina is nearby for boating access. Activities include water skiing, jet skiing, kayaking, swimming, and scuba diving. Flaming Gorge Dam is less than a mile away and offers guided tours of the working hydroelectric plant. The adjacent visitor center features area history exhibits. The Green River below the dam provides spectacular rafting opportunities with unique geology, outlaw history, and Native American rock art.
Directions
From Vernal, Utah, take U.S. 191 north for about 46 miles. From Manila, Utah, take Highway 44 for 28 miles, turn left on U.S. 191 and go about 6 miles north. From Rock Springs, Wyoming, take I-80 west toward Green River about 6 miles to the junction with U.S. 191/Flaming Gorge Road, take U.S. 191 south for 60 miles, pass through Dutch John, and continue south 3 miles to the campground.
