The National Weather Service in Pocatello has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from 2 PM to 9 PM MDT Monday. * AFFECTED AREA...Fire weather zones 475 and 476. * WIND...West 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. * HUMIDITY...As low as 10 percent. * IMPACTS...Wind reaching these speeds and humidity drier than 15 percent can result in rapid fire spread and extreme wildfire intensity.

AQAMT The Montana Department of Environmental Quality has issued an air quality alert for Beaverhead, Deer Lodge, Flathead, Granite, Jefferson, Lake, Lewis and Clark, Lincoln, Madison, Mineral, Missoula, Powell, Ravalli, Sanders, Silver Bow counties in effect until 9AM on 08/10/2026 An Air Quality Alert means that particulates have been trending upwards and that an exceedance of the 24 hour National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) has occurred or may occur in the near future. Elevated particulate levels from wildfire smoke As of 7AM on 08/09/2026, particulate levels in Columbia Falls are Very Unhealthy. As of 7AM on 08/09/2026, particulate levels in Dillon, Libby and Thompson Falls are Unhealthy. As of 7AM on 08/09/2026, particulate levels in Billings, Butte, Hamilton, Lewistown and Sleeping Giant are Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. As of 7AM on 08/09/2026, particulate levels in Cut Bank, Frenchtown, Great Falls, Havre, Helena, Malta and Missoula are Moderate. When air quality is Very Unhealthy... Overview

Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest is Montana's largest national forest, open year-round for recreation. Current key alerts include: active fire closures in the Madison Ranger District due to the Cloudrest and Bivens Creek Fires (Noble Creek Road/NF-8300 closed at forest boundary as of September 2025); annual food storage order in effect March 1-December 1 for bear country compliance; Thompson Park area closed for camping and fires; Elkhorn Mill and Mine area closed due to safety hazards (unstable ground, heavy metals, falling rock). The Butte Ranger District has a pallet prohibition order banning materials with metal hardware due to fire risk. Off-road vehicle use is prohibited on all NFS roads forest-wide. The forest offers wilderness areas (Anaconda-Pintler, Lee Metcalf), scenic byways, alpine lakes, campgrounds, and diverse recreation opportunities including timber, grazing lands, and mineral resources.
