About

Whitehouse Campground occupies a scenic spot in the Boulder River drainage of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, roughly 20 miles north of Butte via I-15 and Forest Service Road 82. This small five-unit campground provides a quiet base for exploring the surrounding backcountry with no fees and no reservations required. Sites accommodate trailers up to 22 feet on a Jefferson County-maintained gravel road suitable for passenger vehicles. The campground offers basic facilities including vault toilets with ADA accessibility at the adjacent picnic day use area. No potable water is available, so campers must bring an adequate supply. Trash service is not provided; pack out everything you pack in. Food storage requirements are in effect March through December due to bear activity in the area. A 16-day stay limit applies. Recreation opportunities abound in the surrounding forest. The Boulder River provides fishing right from camp. Several trailheads accessing the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail lie within 5 miles. The area is popular for OHV riding and hunting in season. During winter, a groomed snowmobile trail system begins at or near the campground depending on snow conditions. Additional dispersed camping is available just east of the developed campground.

Directions

From Butte, take I-15 north for approximately 18 miles to exit 151 (Bernice).
