About

The West Fork of Rock Creek Cabin is a restored historic structure that once served as a Forest Service guard station and later as a youth camp. Located on the western edge of Montana's Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest along the scenic Skalkaho Highway 38 between Hamilton and Philipsburg, this large cabin provides comfortable year-round lodging in the mountains of southwestern Montana. The cabin accommodates up to 6 guests and comes equipped with electricity, baseboard heating, a wood stove, and a full kitchen with cookware, utensils, and dishes. Furnishings include beds for 6, an oak dining table, couch, and rocking chair. Outside, there's a picnic table and fire ring. Potable water is available from a hand pump, though the water is heavily mineralized so bringing your own drinking water is recommended. A vault toilet is located north of the cabin. The West Fork of Rock Creek runs directly behind the cabin, providing excellent fishing access to some of Montana's finest trout waters. The area offers hiking, wildlife viewing, horseback riding, and winter activities including cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Note that there is no cell phone coverage and no garbage service, so visitors must pack out all trash.

Directions

From Philipsburg, drive 6 miles to the junction of Montana Highway 38 (Skalkaho Highway). Drive west on the highway 14 miles. The road to the cabin is on the left. During winter, renters may have to hike 200 yards from the parking area to the cabin.
