About

Piney Campground occupies a prime location on the shores of Georgetown Lake, a nearly 3,000-acre mountain lake in the Pintler Ranger District of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. The campground overlooks the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness, with lodgepole pines framing views of the surrounding peaks. Wildlife in the area includes moose, elk, white-tailed deer, bighorn sheep, and water birds such as great blue herons. The campground features 46 sites spread across two loops: Loop A with 17 reservable sites and Loop B with 29 first-come, first-served sites. Each site includes a fire ring and picnic table, with vault toilets and potable water from hand pumps available throughout. A boat launch provides direct access to Georgetown Lake for fishing, water skiing, and canoeing. Anglers target kokanee salmon, rainbow trout, and brook trout; bull trout must be released immediately if caught. Nearby attractions include the towns of Anaconda and Philipsburg, as well as Discovery Ski Area which offers lift-access mountain biking in summer. Numerous hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking trails are accessible within a few miles of the campground.

Directions

From Highway 1, take Georgetown Lake Road over the dam. Follow signs; Piney will be 2 miles on your left. Located approximately 13 miles south of Philipsburg.
