About
Doney Cabin is a Forest Service rental cabin located in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, approximately 11 miles northwest of Deer Lodge, Montana. Situated near Doney Lake at approximately 6/10 of a mile from the main forest road, the cabin provides a remote backcountry experience in Powell County. Access to the cabin requires driving 15 miles from Deer Lodge on Interstate 90 to the Gold Creek exit, then taking Forest Service Road #302 for 10 miles to the junction with Road #645. From there, continue another 5 miles to the Doney Lake sign. The cabin's remote location makes it ideal for visitors seeking solitude and a true wilderness experience. The surrounding area offers excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing, hunting, hiking, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing. No drinking water is available on-site, so visitors must bring their own. A vault toilet is provided. The cabin serves as a base camp for exploring the surrounding national forest lands and enjoying Montana's backcountry.
Directions
From Deer Lodge, drive 15 miles east on Interstate 90 to the Gold Creek exit. Take Forest Service Road #302 and continue for 10 miles to the junction of roads #302 and #645. Take Road #645 for another 5 miles to the Doney Lake sign. The cabin is located 6/10 of a mile from the sign.
