About

Doney Cabin is a backcountry rental cabin situated near Doney Lake in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest in Powell County, Montana. The remote location offers access to wildlife viewing, hiking, mountain biking, hunting, and cross-country skiing in the surrounding forest lands. The cabin is a primitive facility with vault toilets available but no potable drinking water. Visitors must bring their own water supply. Access requires traveling approximately 15 miles on Interstate 90 from Deer Lodge to the Gold Creek exit, then continuing on Forest Service Roads 302 and 645 for approximately 15 miles to the Doney Lake area. The cabin is currently closed indefinitely for repairs. No reopening date has been announced. When operational, reservations are managed through Recreation.gov.

Directions

From Deer Lodge, drive 15 miles on Interstate 90 to the Gold Creek exit. Take Forest Service Road 302 for 10 miles to the junction with Road 645. Continue on Road 645 for 5 miles to the Doney Lake sign. The lake is 0.6 miles from the sign.
