Sacajawea Memorial Picnic Area sits at 7,400 feet elevation in a remote location at the headwaters of the Missouri River within Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. This day-use only facility commemorates the Lewis and Clark expedition with historical interpretive signage along a paved walking path. The picnic area provides vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings equipped with grill tops. Visitors should note that no potable water or garbage service is available, requiring pack-in, pack-out practices. Cell phone coverage is not available in this secluded area. Access requires traveling 19 miles south of Dillon on Interstate 15, then taking Highway 324 west for 22 miles to a turnoff onto Forest Road 3909 for an additional 12 miles. The site operates seasonally from mid-June through mid-September, weather dependent, with access potentially limited by road conditions during spring and fall.
