About
Sacajawea Memorial Picnic Area is a day-use only facility in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, situated at 7,400 feet elevation at the headwaters of the Missouri River. The site honors the Lemhi Shoshone woman who served as interpreter and guide for the Lewis and Clark Expedition. A paved interpretive path winds through the area with historical signs providing context about Sacajawea's life and the expedition's journey. This is not a campground. Overnight camping is not permitted. The picnic area provides vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings with attached grill tops for day visitors. No potable water is available, and there is no garbage service, so visitors must pack out all trash. Cell phone coverage is not available in this remote location.
