About

West Fork Madison Campground is a small, primitive 7-site campground located along the banks of the West Fork of the Madison River near its confluence with the main Madison. The campground sits in a shaded grove of old growth spruce and Douglas fir at 6,400 feet elevation. The access road divides the campground with 2 sites north of the road and a 5-site loop on the south. This is strictly a tent camping facility due to the tight, narrow turns and small camp spaces that cannot accommodate trailers. The campground offers vault toilets and drinking water via hand pump. Each site includes a picnic table and fire pit. The dense vegetation provides excellent shade and privacy between sites. The location offers excellent fishing access to both the West Fork and Madison Rivers, which are renowned for trout fishing. The West Fork road provides access to OHV trails and scenic drives in the Gravelly Mountains, while hiking trails into the Lee Metcalf Wilderness are nearby. The west entrance to Yellowstone National Park is less than 40 miles away, making this a quieter alternative to more crowded park campgrounds.
