About

Canyon Creek Campground is a primitive, no-fee campground managed by the Wisdom Ranger District in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. Located at 7,300 feet in the scenic Pioneer Mountains west of Melrose, Montana, it offers 3 tent sites at the end of Forest Road 7401. The campground sits near Canyon Creek and provides access to quality trout fishing for brook, rainbow, and cutthroat species. Facilities are minimal: a vault toilet and picnic tables are provided, but there is no potable water and no garbage service. Campers must pack out all trash and bring their own drinking water. The access road limits trailers to 14 feet maximum length, making this campground best suited for tent camping or small pop-up campers. The surrounding area offers day hiking and wildlife viewing opportunities in a quiet mountain setting away from more heavily visited recreation areas.

Directions

From Melrose travel west on Forest Road 187 for about 13 miles, then turn southeast on Forest Road 7401 for approximately 4.5 miles to the campground near the end of the road.
