About
May Creek Campground is a rustic 21-site campground located 17 miles west of Wisdom on Montana Highway 43 in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. Situated at 6,300 feet elevation on relatively flat ground, the campground is surrounded by a dense stand of lodgepole pine providing shade and seclusion. Each site includes a picnic table and fire pit. The campground offers vault toilets with ADA-accessible facilities. Water and garbage services are not provided, so campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. The maximum recommended trailer length is 30 feet. Livestock is prohibited within the campground. Recreation opportunities include fishing in nearby May Creek, day hiking, wildlife viewing, and scenic exploration of the Big Hole Valley. In winter, the area offers cross-country skiing and snowshoeing access. The historic Big Hole National Battlefield is located nearby and worth visiting. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a 16-day stay limit.
Directions
From Wisdom, travel west on Montana Highway 43 for approximately 17 miles. The campground entrance will be on the north side of the highway.
