About

Sureshot Dispersed Site is a primitive camping area located near upper and lower Sureshot Lakes in the Tobacco Root Mountains of southwestern Montana. The area sits within the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest on the Madison Ranger District, surrounded by rugged mountain terrain and offering access to fishing at both lakes. As dispersed camping, there are no developed facilities, fees, or reservations. Campers must be self-sufficient, bringing their own water and packing out all trash. The area falls under the forest's mandatory food storage order due to bear activity. Access requires navigating rough forest roads from McAllister via North Meadow Creek Road; a high-clearance vehicle is necessary and 4WD is strongly recommended. Camping is limited to 16 days within any 30-day period per forest regulations. The area is popular with anglers and hunters seeking a remote backcountry experience. Cell service is nonexistent throughout most of the forest.

Directions

From McAllister (south of I-90 on MT 287), head west on North Meadow Creek Road. High-clearance vehicle required; 4WD recommended due to rough road conditions.
