About

Lowland Campground and Picnic Area sits approximately 20 miles north of Butte in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, accessible via gravel roads suitable for passenger vehicles. The campground features 11 back-in trailer sites that can accommodate RVs up to 22 feet, with tent pads available at most locations. Each site includes a picnic table and fire pit, with firewood generally available in the surrounding area. The campground is located near Sheepshead Recreation Area, which provides fishing opportunities at Maney Lake, and offers proximity to the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail for hikers and mountain bikers. Day-use picnic areas are available for visitors not staying overnight. The facility includes ADA-accessible vault toilets and hand-pump drinking water during the peak season. During the operational season from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, sites are $15 per night with full services including water and garbage. The campground remains accessible during shoulder seasons in spring and fall, though water and garbage services are not available and road conditions may include mud or patchy snow. A 16-day stay limit applies, and all visitors must follow food storage requirements due to bear activity in the area.
