About

Miner Lake Campground is located in southwest Montana's Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest at 7,000 feet elevation. The campground occupies relatively flat ground within a lodgepole pine forest along the north side of 54-acre Miner Lake. With 18 campsites available on a first-come, first-served basis, the campground provides basic amenities including vault toilets and drinking water from a hand pump. A day-use picnic area, boat launch, and fishing access round out the facilities. The campground is designed for self-sufficient camping with no garbage service, requiring visitors to pack out all trash. The lake freezes in winter, and the area provides opportunities for hiking, fishing, and exploring the surrounding forest. Sites include picnic tables and firepits. The location offers access to trails leading into the surrounding mountains and Continental Divide area. Access requires driving 6.75 miles west on County Road 182 from Highway 278 near Jackson, then continuing 3.25 miles west on gravel Forest Road 182. The forest road is rutted in several places, so appropriate vehicles are recommended. The remote setting and elevation make this campground popular during the summer and fall months.

Directions

From Jackson, take Highway 278 south for 0.5 miles. Turn west on County Road 182 and continue 6.75 miles, then continue west on Forest Road 182 for 3.25 miles to the campground. The Forest Service road is gravel and is rutted in several places.
