About
Philipsburg Bay Campground occupies a scenic location adjacent to Georgetown Lake in the Pintler Ranger District of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. At an elevation of over 6,000 feet, this lakeside campground features 65 camping units divided into three loops, with 34 reservable sites and 31 first-come, first-served sites. Loop A and half of Loop B operate as walk-up sites, while Loop C and the remaining sites in Loop B can be reserved in advance during the operating season. The campground provides direct access to Georgetown Lake, a 3,000-acre mountain reservoir known for excellent fishing opportunities. Anglers target kokanee salmon, rainbow trout, and brook trout, though Bull Trout must be released immediately if caught. A paved boat ramp and roads throughout the campground accommodate boaters, water skiers, and paddlers. The surrounding lodgepole pine forests and proximity to the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness support populations of moose, elk, white-tailed deer, bighorn sheep, and various birds of prey and waterfowl including blue herons. Nearby trails provide access to hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding in the surrounding national forest. The towns of Philipsburg and Anaconda offer additional services and attractions including gem mining and fly fishing shops. The campground enforces strict food storage requirements due to bear activity, with bear-resistant storage lockers available on-site.
Directions
