About

Cable Mountain Campground is located on 5 wooded acres in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, approximately 3 miles north of Georgetown Lake. The campground features 11 first-come, first-served campsites nestled along the North Fork of Flint Creek, with mature stands of lodgepole pine, Douglas-fir, and Engelmann spruce providing ample shade. Small groves of aspen and willow add visual diversity and seasonal color. The campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the Georgetown Lake area, one of Montana's premier fisheries known for trophy brook and rainbow trout and kokanee salmon. The Red Lion Trailhead is a short walk from the campground, offering connections to the Discovery Ski Area and the Echo Lake trail system. Additional trail access is available at the Midway Trailhead, 1.5 miles north on Discovery Basin Road. These well-marked trails accommodate hikers and mountain bikers in summer and Nordic skiers in winter. Echo Lake Picnic Area, located 2.5 miles from the campground, provides opportunities for fishing, swimming, and car-top boating. The Pintler Ranger District offers extensive trail networks leading into the Anaconda-Pintler Wilderness, which covers nearly 250 square miles along the Continental Divide. Wildlife in the area includes elk, moose, deer, mountain lions, and both grizzly and black bears. Campers must follow forest-wide food storage orders.
