About

Fleecer Cabin was built in 1924 and has served as headquarters for Forest Service crews ever since. Located in the Fleecer Mountain Range approximately 15 miles south of Butte, the cabin offers a year-round retreat for hunters, hikers, and winter recreationists. The Big Hole River, known for trophy-class trout fishing, is just minutes away. The well-equipped cabin features two bedrooms with beds and mattresses for up to five guests. Amenities include electricity, forced-air heat with woodstove backup, hot and cold running water, a full kitchen with electric stove and refrigerator, and an indoor bathroom with flush toilet and shower. Dishes, cookware, and basic cleaning supplies are provided. Guests must bring their own bedding, pillows, towels, and soap. A horse corral and grassy pasture are adjacent to the cabin for those bringing horses. The cabin is generally accessible by passenger vehicle, though winter conditions may require alternative transport such as skis, snowshoes, ATV, or snowmobile, typically by January. The access road crosses private land, and the gate must remain closed and locked during your stay. Cell phone service is available at the cabin.

Directions

From Butte, travel south on I-15 for approximately 15 miles. Take the Feely exit (No. 111) and turn west onto Forest Road 96 (Divide Creek Road). Continue about 2.5-3 miles to Forest Road 447, turn left and travel about 1-2 miles. As the road begins to climb, turn left and go down the hill to the gate. The cabin is located approximately 0.25 miles from the gate. Keep the gate closed during your stay. The gravel road is suitable for passenger vehicles except during snow conditions.
