About

Nestled along the Pioneer Mountain Scenic Byway of southwest Montana, Price Creek Campground provides diverse recreational opportunities within the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. Situated at 7,873 feet elevation and surrounded by lodgepole pines, the campground offers natural shade and beauty in a high mountain setting where deer, elk, moose, and occasional black bears may be spotted. The campground features 21 individual first-come, first-served campsites and one extra-large reservable group site designed in a loop configuration with a central fire pit and multiple picnic tables, accommodating up to six trailers. Vault toilets and hand-pump drinking water are distributed throughout the campground. All sites include picnic tables and fire rings, with trailers up to 30 feet accommodated on paved roads. Bear-resistant food storage boxes are provided, though campers must pack out all trash as no garbage service is available. Price Creek serves as an excellent base for exploring the Pioneer Mountains. Just 1.5 miles north lies Crystal Park, a 30-acre public area for digging quartz crystals. The 49-mile Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway offers interpretive sites including Coolidge Ghost Town and Grand Vista Overview, plus extensive hiking and ATV trails leading to high mountain lakes and fishing opportunities. Elkhorn Hot Springs Resort is nearby for post-adventure relaxation. The campground is approximately 46 miles northwest of Dillon and 65 miles southwest of Butte, with limited services available in Wise River 28 miles north. Cell phone coverage is not available at the campground.

Directions

From Dillon, travel 3 miles south on I-15 and take exit 59 to MT HWY 278. Travel west on 278 for 22 miles to the Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway. Proceed north approximately 16 miles, then turn right onto FS Road 2406 for 0.25 miles to the campground. From Butte, travel approximately 20 miles south on I-15 and take exit 102 to MT HWY 43. Travel east on 43 for 12 miles to Wise River. Turn south onto the Pioneer Mountain Scenic Byway (HWY 73) and proceed approximately 28 miles. The campground is on the left at FS Road 2406.
