About

Grasshopper Campground is located just off the Pioneer Mountain Scenic Byway in southwest Montana's Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, the largest national forest in Montana. The campground sits at 6,946 feet elevation in a steep canyon adjacent to Grasshopper Creek, surrounded by lodgepole pines that provide ample shade. Wildlife including deer, elk, moose, and occasional black bears frequent the area. The campground offers 20 individual first-come-first-served sites and one large reservable group site that can accommodate two to three trailers. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table, with accessible vault toilets throughout. Drinking water is available from hand pumps through mid-September. Bear-resistant food storage is required. There is no cell phone coverage at this location. Nearby attractions include Crystal Park, a 30-acre area for digging quartz crystals just 5.3 miles north, and Elkhorn Hot Springs Resort. The Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway is a 49-mile drive with interpretive sites including Coolidge Ghost Town and Grand Vista Overview. Dillon is approximately 42 miles southeast; Wise River, with a small convenience store and gas station, is 32 miles north.
