About
Lost Creek State Park, located near Anaconda, Montana, spans 502 acres and sits at an elevation of 6,211 feet. The park is renowned for its striking grey limestone cliffs and pink and white granite formations that rise 1,200 feet above the canyon floor. A highlight of the park is Lost Creek Falls, a 50-foot waterfall accessible via a short, paved trail, offering a scenic and popular spot for visitors. Wildlife enthusiasts can often spot mountain goats, bighorn sheep, and golden eagles on the cliffs above. The park offers a range of recreational activities, including camping, fishing, picnicking, bicycling, and wildlife viewing. For those seeking longer hikes, a Forest Service trail just north of the falls parking area winds several miles along Lost Creek through forests and meadows, providing excellent views of the surrounding mountains. The campground features 25 first-come, first-served campsites, each equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. RVs and trailers are limited to a maximum length of 23 feet. Amenities include vault toilets and potable water. Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash. The park operates on a pack-in/pack-out policy, so visitors are expected to take their trash with them. The park is open from mid to late May through November 30, depending on weather and snow levels. Vehicle access is closed beginning December 2. Campers should be aware that the campground can become inaccessible due to snow in October and November. It's advisable to contact the site manager for the most current information regarding accessibility and conditions.
Directions
From Anaconda, take Montana Highway 1 east for approximately 2 miles, then turn north onto Galen Road. Follow signs to the park, traveling about 4 miles on paved road and 3 miles on gravel road to the park entrance.
