Lake Almanor Recreational Trail Restriction

Forest Order limits the use of motor vehicles as well as saddle animals, pack animals, and draft animals, on the Lake Almanor Recreation Trail.

Overview

Lassen National Forest is a 1.2-million-acre forest spanning seven counties in northeastern California, where the Sierra Nevada meets the Cascade Range. The forest is currently open with several active restrictions. A reduced Park Fire closure area remains in effect through December 31, 2025 (Forest Order No. 06-24-08), though boundaries have been trimmed from the 2024 wildfire. Forest Order No. 06-24-01 limits the number of days and individuals camping on the forest. Additional restrictions apply at Lake Almanor Recreation Trail and the Lake Almanor Overnight Use Closure Area. Dispersed camping follows standard 14-day stay limits in a 30-day period. Campfire permits are required outside developed campsites, and fire restrictions may vary seasonally—always check current conditions before visiting. Prescribed fire operations are planned for fall/winter 2025. The forest offers extensive backcountry opportunities with mixed conifer forests, granite and volcanic terrain, and numerous wilderness areas.
