About
Almanor Campground is a large family-friendly facility located on the west shore of Lake Almanor in Lassen National Forest at an elevation of 4,540 feet. The campground sits within a scenic mixed conifer forest, with some shaded areas and grassy meadows that often contain wildflowers. The facility offers numerous single-family campsites as well as a group site, accommodating both tent and RV camping, though no hookups are provided. The 28,000-acre Lake Almanor provides excellent opportunities for boating, swimming, water skiing, and sailing. A boat ramp is located in the north campground, and the adjacent beach is mostly rocky with some sand areas. Fishing is popular both in the lake and nearby streams, with anglers finding trout, bass, salmon, and catfish. The Lake Almanor Recreation Trail, accessible from the campground, winds 11 miles along the west shore through forest with spectacular views of the lake, Dyer Mountain, and Lassen Peak. The campground is located 12 miles from Chester, California. Each campsite is equipped with a table and campfire ring with grill. Accessible vault toilets and drinking water are provided. Many sites operate on a first-come, first-served basis, while some sites in Almanor South and the group campground are reservable through Recreation.gov.
