About
Goumaz Campground is a small, rustic campground situated between Highway 36 and Highway 44 at the south end of Eagle Lake in Lassen National Forest. With just 5 campsites located along the scenic Susan River, this intimate campground offers a peaceful retreat for campers seeking a quiet, no-frills experience. The site is positioned directly adjacent to the popular Bizz Johnson Trail, a 25.4-mile multi-use trail that follows the historic Fernley and Lassen Railway corridor, making it an excellent starting point for biking, hiking, and horseback riding adventures. The campground provides basic amenities including campfire pits at each site, one vault toilet, and seasonal drinking water from faucets. No fees are required to camp here, making it an accessible option for budget-conscious outdoor enthusiasts. The location along the Susan River provides opportunities for fishing and enjoying the riparian environment. Accessing Goumaz via Highway 44 is recommended when towing trailers, as this route is more suitable for larger rigs. The campground operates seasonally from May through October, with water service typically turned on in April or May and shut off for winter. During winter months, the campground is not maintained but remains accessible for those prepared for primitive conditions. The elevation of 5,200 feet provides a moderate climate during the summer months while making winter access more challenging due to potential snow.
Directions
