About

Crater Lake Campground sits at 6,800 feet elevation on the shore of a pristine volcanic crater lake in the Eagle Lake Ranger District of Lassen National Forest. The 17 campsites offer a secluded, backcountry experience with basic amenities including hand-pumped potable water and vault toilets. Each site comes equipped with a fire ring and picnic table. The lake is a destination for anglers and paddlers seeking solitude. Fly fishing, canoeing, and float tubing are the primary activities, as no gas motors are permitted on the water. Fall visitors can enjoy vibrant aspen color displays surrounding the lake. Access to the campground requires driving 7 miles on Forest Route 32N08, a rough steep road that makes it unsuitable for motorhomes and large trailers. The remote location and challenging access help maintain the area's quiet, undeveloped character.

Directions

From Susanville, drive 28.6 miles west on Highway 44. Turn onto Forest Route 32N08 and continue 7 miles to the campground. The road is rough and steep.
