About

Crater Lake Campground is a remote, rustic camping destination located at 6,800 feet elevation in the Eagle Lake Ranger District of Lassen National Forest. Access requires traveling 7 miles on Forest Route 32N08, a rough and steep road that makes the campground unsuitable for motorhomes and large trailers. The 17 lakeside campsites each include a fire ring and picnic table, offering an intimate camping experience in a tranquil mountain setting. The lake is a favorite for fly fishing enthusiasts, and paddlers enjoy canoeing and float tubing on its calm waters. Gas motors are prohibited, preserving the peaceful atmosphere. The campground's hand-pumped drinking water and vault toilets provide basic amenities while maintaining the area's backcountry character. Fall is an especially scenic time to visit, when the surrounding aspen stands burst into brilliant gold, creating a stunning contrast against the evergreen forest and blue lake waters. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis at $10 per night, with quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Directions

From Susanville, drive 28.6 miles west on Highway 44. Turn onto Forest Route 32N08 and continue 7 miles to the campground. The access road is rough and steep, not recommended for motorhomes or large trailers.
