About
Gurnsey Creek Group Campground is located in the mountains of northern California within the Almanor Ranger District of Lassen National Forest. Situated at an elevation of 4,700 feet, the campground is nestled in a mixed conifer forest along Gurnsey Creek, providing a scenic mountain setting for group camping. The campground offers two group sites: Group Site 1 accommodates up to 56 people at $56 per night, while Group Site 2 can host up to 112 people at $112 per night. Both sites are reservable through Recreation.gov. Each site includes picnic tables and campfire rings with grills. Accessible vault toilets and potable drinking water are available, with a water-filling station located at the campground entrance. No hookups are provided, and parking within the campground is limited. Recreational opportunities abound in the area. Gurnsey Creek offers rainbow trout fishing, and the surrounding forest provides access to numerous hiking trails and picnic spots. The campground is conveniently located 14 miles west of Chester and Lake Almanor, where visitors can enjoy boating, sailing, and water skiing. The southwest entrance to Lassen Volcanic National Park, known for its active geothermal features including fumaroles and mud pots, is approximately 14 miles north. The campground's location along Highway 36 makes it an ideal base camp for exploring the region's natural attractions.
Directions
From the town of Chester, follow Highway 36 west for about 14 miles. Gurnsey Creek Campground is located on the right side of the highway, about 2 miles past the Highway 32 turnoff.
