About

Gurnsey Creek Group Campground is a reservation-only group camping area located in the mountains of northern California's Lassen National Forest. Set at an elevation of 4,700 feet in a mixed conifer forest alongside Gurnsey Creek, it provides a scenic base for group outings. The campground offers two group loops: GS Loop #1 accommodates up to 56 people, while GS Loop #2 can host up to 112 people. Each site includes a fire ring with grill and picnic table. Vault toilets and potable drinking water are provided, with a water-filling station located at the campground entrance. No utility hookups or showers are available. Dogs are permitted but must remain leashed at all times. Quiet hours are enforced from 10pm to 6am. The campground is situated 14 miles west of Chester and Lake Almanor, where boating, fishing, sailing, and water skiing are popular. The southwest entrance to Lassen Volcanic National Park, known for its hydrothermal features and volcanic landscape, is approximately 14 miles north.

Directions

From the town of Chester, follow Highway 36 west for about 14 miles. Gurnsey Creek Campground is located on the right side of the highway, about 2 miles past the Highway 32 turnoff.
