About

Almanor Group Campground occupies a scenic location along Highway 89 on the west shore of Lake Almanor in Lassen National Forest. At 4,540 feet elevation, the campground sits within a mixed conifer forest that provides shade and seasonal wildflower displays in grassy meadows. The facility caters to organized groups seeking access to the 28,000-acre lake and surrounding recreational opportunities. The campground provides essential amenities including fire rings, BBQ grills, trash cans, and picnic tables at each site. Vault toilets and drinking water from a hand pump are available on-site. Group sites accommodate various sizes, with rates ranging from standard group sites to larger group configurations. No hookups are provided, making this suitable for tent camping and self-contained RVs. Direct access to Lake Almanor offers boating, swimming, water skiing, and fishing for trout, bass, salmon, and catfish. The Lake Almanor Recreation Trail winds approximately 11 miles along the west shore, accessible from the campground, providing views of Dyer Mountain and Lassen Peak. The campground sits about 6 miles from Chester via Highway 89, making it a convenient base for exploring the Almanor Ranger District.

Directions

From Chester, take Highway 89 south approximately 6 miles to Almanor Drive West. The group campground is located directly off Highway 89, across from Almanor Drive West. It sits approximately 5.9 miles from the intersection of Highway 89 and Highway 36.
