About
Gurnsey Creek Campground is nestled in a mixed conifer forest in the Lassen National Forest at an elevation of 4,700 feet, located along scenic Highway 36. The campground offers 52 individual campsites plus two reservable group sites that can accommodate 56 and 112 people respectively. Situated next to Gurnsey Creek, the campground provides excellent access to rainbow trout fishing and numerous hiking trails in the surrounding forest. The campground is conveniently located 14 miles west of Chester and Lake Almanor, where additional water recreation opportunities are available. The southwest entrance to Lassen Volcanic National Park is approximately 14 miles north, making this an ideal base camp for exploring the park's active volcanic features, including fumaroles and boiling mud pots. Bears are active in the area, and the campground provides appropriate food storage containers. The facility operates seasonally, typically from late spring through early fall, with exact dates dependent on snow conditions at this mountain elevation.
Directions
From Chester, follow Highway 36 west for about 14 miles. The campground is on the right side of the highway, about 2 miles past the Highway 32 turnoff.
