About

Black Rock Campground offers a primitive backcountry experience in the scenic oak woodlands along Mill Creek, positioned at the northeast gateway to the Ishi Wilderness in Lassen National Forest. The campground provides six dispersed sites at 2,100 feet elevation, each equipped with a fire ring and picnic table for self-reliant campers. A vault toilet is available on-site, but there is no potable water, so campers must bring their own or filter from nearby Mill Creek. There is no trash service; pack out all waste. The remote setting provides excellent access to hiking in the Ishi Wilderness and fishing in Mill Creek and Deer Creek. Access is via Highway 36 east from Red Bluff to Ponderosa Way, an unpaved dirt road that requires a high-clearance vehicle. The road is not suitable for RVs or low-clearance vehicles.

Directions

From Red Bluff, take Highway 36 east. Turn south onto Ponderosa Way, an unpaved dirt road requiring a high-clearance vehicle. Follow Ponderosa Way to the campground. Not recommended for RVs.
