About

Butte Creek Campground provides a peaceful, primitive camping experience in Lassen National Forest, situated approximately 4 miles off Highway 44 along Forest Road 32N21. This small campground features 10 semi-developed sites spread along Butte Creek at an elevation of 5,600 feet. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no fees required. Vault toilets are available at both ends of the campground, but campers must bring their own water as no potable water is available on-site. Each campsite includes a picnic table and metal fire ring, providing basic amenities for tent camping and smaller RVs. The remote location offers a quiet retreat away from more developed campgrounds. The campground is accessible from Susanville by driving west on Highway 36 to Highway 44, continuing 35 miles to Forest Road 32N21, then 2.5 miles to the campground. The site is open year-round but is not maintained during winter months and access depends on snow conditions, typically opening in spring after snowmelt and becoming difficult to access in fall and winter.

Directions

From Susanville, drive west on Highway 36 to Highway 44. Continue west on Highway 44 for 35 miles to Forest Road 32N21. Turn and continue 2.5 miles to reach the campground.
