About
Rocky Point Campground occupies a prime location on Lake Almanor's west shore, just north of Canyon Dam off Highway 89. At 4,600 feet elevation, the campground is shaded by mature ponderosa pines and offers direct access to one of Northern California's premier recreation lakes. The 28,000-acre reservoir provides excellent opportunities for boating, waterskiing, wakeboarding, jet skiing, swimming, and fishing for rainbow trout, brown trout, and smallmouth bass. The campground features 109 individual sites spread across multiple loops, with a mix of walk-in tent-only sites and drive-in sites suitable for RVs and trailers up to 40 feet. Each campsite includes a picnic table, fire ring with cooking grill, and bear-proof food storage locker. Campground-wide amenities include vault toilets, potable tap water, and a nearby dump station. Five ADA-accessible sites are available at sites 4, 10, 14B, 75, and 89. Two group camping areas are also available: Rocky Point North accommodates up to 30 people across 5 sites, while Rocky Point South can host up to 114 people across 12 sites. Note that sites 68-102 in Loop 2 close from May through June annually to protect nesting ospreys. The Lake Almanor Recreation Trail offers scenic hiking along the shoreline for those seeking land-based recreation.
